On the Indian map the western most area is called The Great Rann of Kutch – the second largest district of India with a diverse wildlife and bio-diversity. the great Rann of Kutch is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world and it has been inhabited by the local people called Kutchi.
14 years back, if someone spoke about Kutch it was supposed to be a place with no or little amenities for visitors and main visitors used to be the business travellers flocking two ports of Kutch i.e. Kandla and Mundra. But the earth quake and the development following the disaster changed the landscape of the region for ever. There used to be a village called ‘Dhordo‘ where local villagers were struggling to find enough work to sustain their lives and what can you expect in the area which is either drawn under water during monsoon and rest of the time its covered under white salt! No scope for any agriculture or animal husbandry, but the same eco-system not conducive for any other activity boosted tourism like anything.
